Privacy policy

This policy explains what The Gift Edit collects when you use this site, and what we deliberately don't.

What stays on your device

The people you save, your saved gift ideas, your gift history and your finder answers are stored locally in your browser. Clearing your browser storage removes them permanently. We cannot recover them for you.

What our servers see

Gift searches: the criteria you submit (relationship, occasion, interests, personality, budget) are sent to our server so it can score products. They are not tied to your name or email.
If you create an account, the details you provide for it are stored so we can sign you back in.
Standard technical request data — IP address, browser type, timestamps — is processed by our hosting provider to serve pages and protect against abuse.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use only what the site needs to work: local storage for your saved data and, if you sign in, a session cookie. We do not currently run advertising cookies. If that changes, this page will be updated before any advertising is enabled.

Links to other sites

When you follow a link to a retailer such as Amazon, that site's own privacy policy and cookies apply, and an affiliate identifier may be attached to the link so a purchase can be attributed to us. See our affiliate disclosure.

Children

This site is intended for adults buying gifts. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

You can clear locally stored data at any time from your browser settings. To ask what account data we hold or to have it deleted, contact us and we'll action it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published on this page.
